What are the dimensions of a Bordeaux barrel?
Question submitted by Dean

A Bordeaux barrel contains 225 liters (60 US gallons).

The barrel is made in oak wood, sometimes in chestnut tree wood and more often these days in stainless steel. Please note that quality of the barrel varies in the origin of the tree.

The benefit of the oak barrel is to lend it aromas to the wine and specially to red wine.

Dimensions of a Bordeaux barrel are :

Height = 94,80 cm (3.11 feet / 37.32 inches)

Bottom and top circumferences = 55,75 cm (1.83 feet / 21.95 inches)

Middle circumference = 68,50 cm (2.25 feet / 26.97 inches)

Iron hoops number = 6

Wooden hoops number = 4
