Languedoc-Roussillon region is along the Mediterranean sea shores, between the Rhône delta and Spain.

Wine has always been very important in the economy of the region. However tourism has become the most important income source. Languedoc Roussillon is now a destination that attract many tourists. The region has some of the finest beaches in France. The countryside is gorgeous and less overcrowded than in Provence. The region has many historic places of interest, strong traditional culture and authentic food, a vibrant city as Montpellier and a lot of sun to offer! Languedoc Roussillon is a very good alternative to the French riviera, Provence and Périgord altogether !
 

Languedoc Roussillon Region Information:

Location: On the border of the Mediterranean sea, from the Rhône river to the Pyrénées mountains and Spain
Size: 27,400 km2 (size of the Languedoc Roussillon region)
Covering 5 departments: Aude, Gard, Hérault, Pyrénées Orientales and Lozère (the latest is more a cheese area)
Weather: Mediterranean (mild winter and hot summer)
Population: 2,400,000 (population of Languedoc Roussillon)
Main Cities:

Montpellier (250,000)
Nimes (140,000)
Perpignan (115,000)
Béziers (75,000)

Places of Interest:

Beach (180 km of beaches)
Carcassonne (middle age city)
Montpellier (shopping, Antigone, old pedestrian city)
Aigues Mortes (small medieval city by the sea)
Collioure (typical port, art centre
)
Cerdagne (Pyrénées mountains, yellow train)
