In the past, Macon was known for its red wine.
Nowadays, Macon is the largest producing area of white wine in Burgundy.
White wine in Macon is light and dry. It is typically an everyday wine, rather cheap and pleasant.
Red wine is still produced. It is light to medium and fruity.
Macon Supérieur wines come from the same area but have more alcohol which explain why they are called "superieur".
Actually, most of the Superieur wines are sold under the regular Macon classification.
Macon Villages winemaking process is similar to Superieur, but wines are distinctively better. Only white wine in Macon Villages.
