How many wineries are there in France, what's their average size?
Question submitted by David

There are about 27,000 wineries in France.

About 110,000 vinegrowers own at least one vineyard. But many of them bring their grapes to their local co-op. Only one vinegrower out of five produces his own wine.

10 years ago, they were more than 200,000 vine growers.

The average size is about 8 hectares.

The total size of the french vineyards is about 865 000 hectares.
